MARYSVILLE — In the second meeting between the Marysville-Pilchuck and Edmonds Woodway, the roles reversed.

When it counted, it was the Tommies who ran over the Warriors to the tune of a 35-20 win in a seeding game Oct. 29.

The win earned M-P home field advantage for a winner-to-state match-up vs. Bethel to be played Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.

“It’s huge,” said M-P coach Brandon Carson about earning the No. 2 seed out of the Western Conference. “We’ve proved over this season that we’re pretty good at home and we’re excited about it.”

The Tommies showed that they earned it, with four rushers gaining more than 100 yards, and totaling 509 all together.

“That pretty much shows that everything is going right,” Carson said. “And when that happens, it’s really the offensive line that gives you space to do what you plan.”

Leading the Tommies in rushing was quarterback Tylor Klep with 142 yards, while he was followed by halfbacks Tyler Thompson (139 yards) and Kyle Miller and Cody House, who each had 114 yards.

More importantly, M-P held talented Edmonds back Zach Berg to just three touchdowns and 120 yards. Considering he scored six times against the Tommies in a non-conference game earlier this season, that was shutting him down.

Now the Tommies turn their attention to Bethel, a throwing team that went 6-3 overall this season.

“Lately we’ve done a pretty good job,” said Carson about defending throwing offenses. “But not as well as we would like. It’s something we’re going to work on.”

Meanwhile, Carson is confident about his team’s chances to earn its second state berth in as many years.

“We’re a pretty hard team to stop too,” he said. “As long as we play our style of football, and limit turnovers, it should be a good game.”

M-P is 5-0 when playing at home this season.
