MARYSVILLE — The Tomahawks took too long to get started in a 71-42 Wesco North loss to Cascade Jan. 15 at Jim Linden Fieldhouse.

“Spot a good team like Cascade a big lead and it’s too hard to play catch-up,” said Marysville-Pilchuck coach Bary Gould.

The Tomahawks trailed 9-0 at the start of the game and never were able to start a rally of their own.

Bruins senior Chris McGrath scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter, as they pulled away from the Tomahawks behind a 23-8 run to own a 36-12 halftime lead.

On a night where nothing seemed to be going right, one thing that Gould could be proud of was his team’s effort, which didn’t let up all game, and might have intensified in the second half.

“I’m really proud of my kids because they didn’t give up,” he said. “So often we talk about how basketball parallels life where 10 percent of what happens to you and the 90 percent is how you respond.”

Leading the Tomahawks was Ryan Shannon and Brandon Emch, who both scored 10 points.

The loss drops Marysville’s record to 6-7 overall, and 3-6 Wesco North play.
