TULALIP — The Boom City Swap Meet will open for business on May 7 and continue on Saturdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Swap Meet welcomes a variety of vendors, offering goods ranging from antiques and handmade crafts to traditional salmon dinners.

Tulalip Tribal member Les Parks, a former member of the Tribal Board, has leased 15 acres in Quil Ceda Village to start the Swap Meet. He and longtime friend George Craig have been working on this event for nearly 18 months, and this month, their hard work and planning will pay off.

The property known as Boom City will house up to 175 vendors looking to sell their arts and crafts this spring and summer. The Swap Meet is open to any and all vendors, including Tulalip members.

“Although swap meets throughout the Northwest have been closing their operations, the demand for them still exists,” Parks said. “We have the perfect location and amount of space for this type of event.”

The Boom City Swap Meet will close from June 4 through July 15 for regular Boom City fireworks vendors, but will reopen July 16 and remain open through September. The Swap Meet will feature food vendors offering traditional Native American cuisine such as fry bread and barbeque salmon, as well as arts and crafts and much more. The Swap Meet will also have a designated children’s play area, complete with face-painting and other novelties. Admission is $1 per person, with a maximum of $3 per vehicle.

“We’re still looking for vendors,” Parks said. “Although we have space for 175, we don’t anticipate we’ll start out with that many. We expect that we will grow as the weeks go by.” Vendors are not required to reserve their space. They can sign up the day of, on site.
