MARYSVILLE — Water, sewer and stormwater rates in Marysville will rise in the next two years.
A bill passed by the Marysville City Council Nov. 24 puts a 2 percent increase into effect for 2015 and a further 2 percent increase in 2016. The council also voted to extend the city’s 6 percent telephone service tax for an additional two years.
A survey of rates in about 100 jurisdictions across the state showed that Marysville’s rates were significantly lower than the average, according to city officials.
Even with the rate increases, the average household would pay $17.49 per month for water in 2015, $40.60 for sewer, and $11.04 for stormwater service, well under the statewide averages of $33.62 for water, $51.24 for sewer and $13.81 for stormwater.
Marysville bills for those utilities on a bimonthly basis, and water is a metered service. The average rates used in the comparison are for single-family houses inside the city with a consumption of 7,500 gallons per two-month billing period.
The city’s utility department also serves some homes outside the city limits, who pay higher rates. Sewer and stormwater rates are fixed for single-family homes.
