MARYSVILLE — After watching a pair of double-headers at the city of Marysville’s softball league, the strategy becomes obvious: swing a big stick.

Yellow balls fly all over the field and scores rise quicker than the temperature at Marysville-Pilchuck High School for the Wednesday CoEd “E” league action.

With a healthy mix of seasoned players and newcomers, the Wednesday league offers a little bit of everything.

No team had happier players than Woodinville Wine Cellar, which earned their first win of the season in dramatic fashion in the first of two games Aug. 4.

“We’re so excited,” said team captain Christa Bisson of Marysville. “We’ve had an awesome time. Everybody has been holding their own.”

Woodinville had a share of a 12-12 tie to start the sixth inning, and scored three runs to end up winning 15-12.

The first win is always the most memorable, especially as this is Woodinville’s first season in Marysville’s softball league.

“We are just a bunch of friends and we got sponsored by where I work, so we thought why not?” Bisson said.

Perhaps one of the game-defining plays occurred in the fourth inning when Phil Bisson made a spectacular diving catch in centerfield to save a couple runs and preserve the tie.

The Slackers came back to win the second game 15-5 on an eight-run fifth inning.
