WARM BEACH The Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach Camps & Conference Center was scheduled to open Thursday, Nov. 30, but due to last weeks snow storm, last minute preparations required a huge clean-up of fallen tree branches and a call for volunteer help from across north county.
We had 50 or 60 volunteers helping our regular crew of 30, said Keith Yarter of Warm Beach Camps.
They did manage to open by Friday evening, just 24 hours late, and the show goes on, albeit slightly different than planned, Yarter said Friday afternoon.
Weve got the snow cleared off the walkways but we had to change the draft horse wagon rides, because the ground was too soft, Yarter said they came up with a fine solution however.
Weve got tractor pulled hayrides instead, he said. Itll be fine.
The registration staff got on the horn and rescheduled most overnighters who were due in for opening night, and only a few were not able to reschedule Yarter said.
We had friends and neighbors bring in their chainsaws and got it all done. Thanks to all the regional chambers for their pleas for help and thanks to the first visitors for their patience and understanding.
