LAKEWOOD — Cougars cross country had one league meet left Sept. 21 before heading down to the Stanford Invitational.

Lakewood had a warm send off, finishing first in the boys’ standings while the girls finished second in a home meet that showcased all six Cascade Conference teams.

Leading the way for the girls was the trio of Kelsey Anderson, Rachel Cundy and Chelsea Stokes that finished Nos. 2-4, respectively.

“They are great for each other,” said Lakewood coach Jeff Sowards of his top three runners. “They challenge and cheer one another on.”

The girls finished with 46 points, which was just one behind leader Cedarcrest.

The boys were highlighted by third-place finisher Trent Tresch, who finished the two-mile race in 10:35.04.

The boys scored 40 points to defeat runner-up Cedarcrest by six spots.

After the race, seven Lakewood boys and seven girls traveled to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational Sept. 25. Cundy finished ninth with a time of 19:15 to help the girls capture ninth in the team standings for Division 4. All divisions were based on school size.

The boys finished No. 12 in Division 4.
