TULALIP — Investigators don’t know how a man who was found dead in a lake at the Port Susan Camping Club wound up in the water in the first place.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s divers recovered the body from the lake, at the the 12000 block of Marine Drive on the Tulalip Reservation, on the evening of July 26.
The man was not wearing a life jacket, and divers found his body about 20 to 25 yards from the dock. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire District 15 and Tulalip Fire and Police personnel also responded at the scene.
“The man had been in a 12- to 14-foot aluminum boat on the small, shallow lake, located in the private camping community, when witnesses said they noticed him struggling in the water,” Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Director of Communications Rebecca Hover said. “When they got to the lake to help him, he had already disappeared under the surface. The witnesses called 911 at about 6:30 p.m.”
According to Hover, the man is believed to be a 56-year-old Snohomish County resident, but his identity has not yet been confirmed. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm and release his identity.
