MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck High School Naval Junior ROTC “Tomahawk Company” will be conducting its annual evening parade Feb. 26 at 6:55 p.m. in the M-PHS gym, and the public is invited to attend. Rear Adm. James Symonds, commander of Navy Region Northwest, will be the reviewing officer. This is an opportunity for the NJROTC students to demonstrate to their families, the community and Marysville School District a time-honored military ceremony.

Navy Band Northwest, one of only 17 U.S. Navy Bands in the world, will be performing and providing music for this event. Navy Band Northwest consists of more than 30 rated musicians, and the band performs for a variety of military, civilian and recruiting functions, including changes of command, dances, concerts and parades.

During this past school year, Tomahawk Company received recognition from the commander of Naval Education and Training Command for the 10th consecutive year. They also logged more than 900 community service hours and collected more than 100 pairs of eyeglasses for the Marysville Lions Club “Recycle for Sight” program. NJROTC cadets can be found at a variety of events throughout the city and schools of Marysville, including PTSA fairs and food drives, memorial celebrations, parades and sporting events. NJROTC cadets maintain State Avenue, between 116th to 136th streets, through the Marysville “Adopt a Street” program.

They also sponsor teams that compete in orienteering, color guard, exhibition drills, marksmanship and physical fitness training during the school year against other JROTC programs in Washington and Oregon.
