EVERETT — Everett Community College is celebrating “Earth Week” April 23-26 with a presentation by Pacific Northwest gardening expert Ciscoe Morris, a sustainability awareness fair and more.

The events are free and open to the public, and are part of the college’s ongoing sustainability efforts.

Monday, April 23, will bring “Gardening with Ciscoe” to the Gray Wolf Hall courtyard from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Seattle’s Ciscoe Morris gives advice on his weekly “Gardening with Ciscoe” shows on various TV and radio shows on KING 5 and KIRO 97.3. His book, “Ask Ciscoe,” is a top-selling garden book nationwide. He will share tips about organic vegetable gardening.

Wednesday, April 25, will bring a sustainability awareness fair to the Gray Wolf Hall courtyard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will be able to meet representatives from local businesses and services that offer sustainable practices, and to learn about saving energy, composting, recycling and how to get involved in local sustainability efforts.

The Gray Wolf Hall courtyard will also serve as the site for a “Dumpster Dive” at 12:30 p.m. that same day. Teams of students and faculty members will dive into trash containers and compete to find the most recyclable materials, demonstrating how much material is thrown away that can be recycled.

Thursday, April 26, will see a screening of “Dirt! The Movie” from 12:30-3:30 p.m. in room 353 of Whitehorse Hall. Biology instructor Pamela Pape-Lindstrom will lead a discussion about the film and how individuals can help protect one of the planet’s most valuable resources.

“Earth Week” is sponsored by EvCC’s Sustainability Initiative, the EvCC Foundation and EvCC’s Student Programs Board.
