MARYSVILLE — September 11 will be marked by remembrance and public service this year.

The Police and Firefighters’ Memorial at the Marysville Library will once again host the city’s 9/11 ceremony.

The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, which commences at 8:30 a.m. at 6120 Grove St.

The Marysville Fire District will coordinate the ceremony, which will begin with an invocation by Greg Kanehen, pastor of the Marysville Free Methodist Church.

The Honor Guard will then present the colors, play “Taps” and ring the bell at 8:46 a.m. to honor of the first responders who died in the World Trade Center attacks, as well as Marysville Fire Lt. Jeff Thornton, who lost his life to cancer that same day.

September 11 is also the National Day of Service and Remembrance, which will include several community service projects across the country. Locally, Jennings Nature Park is set to be refurbished between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with sponsorship support from the Latter Day Saints Church, Marysville Rotary and Marysville Parks and Recreation.

This year’s 9/11 ceremony will be followed by the “Touch a Truck” event at 10 a.m. in Totem Middle School’s Asbery Field.
