MARYSVILLE — Marysville Library patrons will find a number of their regular services interrupted from Tuesday, Sept. 3, through Thursday, Sept. 5, as a new “Creative Commons” set of spaces is installed on site.

The Marysville Library’s renovations will rearrange about 1,000 square feet which will be set aside to provide computer-aided creativity, collaboration, classroom, and research and development opportunities for students, entrepreneurs and businesspeople alike. These “Creative Commons” spaces will also house specialized equipment, including additional iMacs, software and audio/video editing equipment, in addition to serving as an area for instructor-led training and small group collaborative projects.

In the meantime, Marysville Library Manager Eric Spencer promised that the library would remain open for some limited services.

“Instead of using the word ‘closure,’ we’d like to say ‘hours of reduced services,’ because during those days, staff will be here to take care of library accounts and give people access to their holds,” Spencer said. “All of the holds will be available for people to pick up in the lobby. They can check those out, and they can also bring materials back and return them.”

Spencer explained that counter service for materials pick up, returns and library card accounts customers will be conducted from the Marysville Library’s large meeting room in its front lobby from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 3-5, before the library is expected to reopen for full service on Friday, Sept. 6.

“We can do that from the large meeting room, but there won’t be any access to the rest of the library, or the building proper,” Spencer said. “We’re only running limited minimum staffing during that time, but we do plan to make holds available, which will mean that new holds will be available as well, and book drops, so we’ll keep people’s accounts taken care of.”

Marysville Library customers who have reserved books or materials will have their holds automatically extended during this short closure.
