The Tomahawk girls swim team has challenged the gridiron guys to contest that might be a little out of their element, literally. The two high school teams will face off in the Fall Aquatic Extravaganza and for a good cause.

The teams are getting together to raise money for one of their own, recent M-P graduate David Kratovil. The former football player was a regular in the aquatics class offered every semester at Marysville-Pilchuck. The former student was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease on his 21st birthday and the teams want to try putting a dent in the $243,000 worth of bills that are overwhelming David and his family.

Contest events will include a dog-paddle relay, inner tube relay, belly flop contest and synchronized swim-off.

The fundraising event takes place Nov. 3 from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. with the doors to the pool opening a half-hour early. Organizers are asking for a minimum donation of $5 per person, which can also be given in the form of gas cards, grocery certificates or food items.
