TULALIP — The local Relay For Life came and went June 13-14, but those in the Marysville area will still have a chance to support the American Cancer Society July 9, as the Pacific Rim Ballroom and Supper Club hosts a Relay For Life “Happy Hour” fundraiser from 6-8 p.m.
Joan Dixon-Schmidt, coordinator for the event, is also a consultant with PartyLite, which has raised more than $10 million in the past 10 years for the American Cancer Society, and which has served as an official national sponsor of Relay For Life for the second year in a row.
“Relay For Life goes from April through July, so PartyLite decided to have one team, instead of a bunch of little teams,” said Dixon-Schmidt, who explained that PartyLite’s Sammamish-based team, “Live Strong,” will be taking part in the Relay For Life in the North Bend area July 11.
To help support this event, Dixon-Schmidt wanted to do “a little something more,” so she contacted Mark and Cindy Langmas, owners of the Pacific Rim Ballroom and Supper Club adjoining the Best Western Tulalip Inn.
“I love this facility,” Dixon-Schmidt said. “It brings excitement to the North End. You don’t have to go to Seattle to get fine dining and entertainment, because it’s all right here.”
Dixon-Schmidt anticipated that music and dancing would accompany the “Happy Hour” fundraiser’s hors d’oeuvres, refreshments and variety of prizes throughout the evening. She praised the Langmases for donating their services and facility for the event, free of charge.
“They’re very generous people, and I’m grateful to them for doing this with us,” Dixon-Schmidt said. “I don’t know anyone whose lives haven’t been touched by cancer. This is a great way to give back.”
The Pacific Rim Ballroom and Supper Club is located at 3228 Marine View Dr., and admission for the July 9 Relay For Life “Happy Hour” fundraiser is $25. To RSVP, contact Dixon-Schmidt via e-mail at let.your.lightshine@verizon.net, or by phone at 360-691-3381 or 425-350-3381.
