The city of Marysville announced Feb. 23 that it has postponed its 88th Street master plan neighborhood meeting from Thursday, Feb. 24, to the following Thursday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. in the Marysville City Hall Council Chambers at 1049 State Ave. The proposed master plan would establish allowable land uses and design standards on property west of State Avenue.

The meeting to consider the proposed 88th Street master plan is set for 6-8 p.m. on March 3 in the Marysville City Council Chambers, on the second floor of the Marysville City Hall at 1049 State Ave.
Marysville schools are exercising caution in anticipation of further winter weather.
The Marysville School District announced on Feb. 22 that its morning and afternoon Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program, as well as its kindergarten, preschool and all of its afternoon bus routes, will operate on limited bus transportation snow routes. The school district’s afternoon Skill Center and ECEAP have both been cancelled.
SEATTLE — Louie Ray Pablo, a 52-year-old member of the Tulalip Tribes, was sentenced Feb. 11 in U.S. District Court in Seattle to two years of federal probation for dealing in explosive materials without a license.
Pablo operated a fireworks stand at “Boom City” on the Tulalip Reservation, and in June of 2009, a search of the stand and a nearby storage container revealed hundreds of powerful illegal fireworks that are classified by federal law as explosives.
LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood School District is inviting all parents whose children will be 5 years old by Aug. 31 of this year to attend the district’s “Kindergarten Round-Up” Feb. 11.
The Lakewood Middle School commons will serve as the site for this event from 1-6 p.m., so that parents can register their kids for kindergarten, in addition to getting them health screenings from the district nurse and developmental pre-screenings from district special education specialists.
The funeral motorcade for slain corrections officer Jayme Biendl started at the Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home at Eighth Street and State Avenue in Marysville at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 8.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville School District is inviting the public to a second town meeting to discuss the midyear budget on Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the MSD Service Center Board Room, located at 4220 80th St. NE in Marysville.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Tulalip Relay For Life is continuing its fundraising efforts through the month of February.
On Feb. 19, the Marysville Tulalip Relay will be sharing the wealth with the Arlington and Lake Stevens Relays, when the three Relays will jointly conduct a three-way-split fundraiser at the Marysville Skate Inn, located at 7313 44th Ave. NE, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at a cost of $5 per skater.
Feb. 26 marks the return of a familiar favorite, as Doc’s Pilchuck Tavern at 1431 S. Machias Rd. in Snohomish welcomes the return of the Oyster Barbecue fundraiser to support the Marysville Tulalip Relay.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Dog Owners Group’s Poochapalooza fundraiser returns this summer, but it’ll need the support of the community to be a success.
The fifth annual Poochapalooza kicks off at 10 a.m. on July 9 at the Strawberry Athletic Complex, located at 6100 152nd St. NE, and runs until 3:30 p.m. that day.
In the meantime, M-DOG is looking to recruit vendors and sponsors in advance of the event, to help generate proceeds to benefit the Strawberry Fields For Rover off-leash dog park.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville School District’s annual “Information Fair” and kindergarten registration will take place this year Jan. 29 from 9-11 a.m. in the Totem Middle School cafeteria, located at 1605 Seventh St.
School staff and district members, along with community partnership groups, will answer questions and provide information that’s intended to be both supportive and useful on the subject of various programs and resources available to students and parents alike.
MARYSVILLE — Scrub-A-Mutt is hosting a Valentine’s weekend pet food drive at the Marysville Safeway at 1258 State Ave.
The pet food drive will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 12, the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, and will collect both dog and cat food, as well as cash donations, to give to the Marysville Community Food Bank.
MARYSVILLE — The city of Marysville is bringing world-renowned adventurer Helen Thayer to town on Feb. 11, to tell audiences about her trek to the magnetic North Pole, when she made history by becoming the first woman to reach a world pole traveling solo.
Thayer’s presentation, entitled “Polar Dream — Achieving Your Highest Goal,” will recount her journey with Charlie, her four-legged companion to the magnetic North Pole. On her solo expedition at the age of 50, she hauled a 160-pound sled of supplies hundreds of miles over rugged terrain into a perilous, frozen world.
MARYSVILLE — With the ever-present possibility of periodic rainstorms bearing down on our area and region, the city of Marysville is encouraging its residents and businesses to prepare themselves for bouts of significant rainfall, which can lead to potential flooding, debris flows and mudslides.
The city is now providing free sand and bags for residents to make their own sandbags. The public may pick up sand and bags at the Public Works Building at 80 Columbia Ave. in downtown Marysville during its regular business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at the city’s materials storage site at 100th Street NE and 67th Avenue NE anytime.
MARYSVILLE — The Marysville School District will be conducting staff and public forums on the state’s mid-school year budget cuts on Jan. 13.
The Marysville School District Board Room, located at 4220 80th St. NE, will serve as the site for a 3 p.m. forum for secondary school staff, a 4:15 p.m. forum for elementary school staff and a 7 p.m. community forum that will be open to the public.
