Dan Teeter sat his team down before the season began to let them know that Archbishop Murphy was this year’s homecoming game. “I wanted this one in front of the biggest crowd so we could get as many people to see what Cougar football looked like,” he said.
Finishing a game might be the most difficult aspect of winning — just ask the Chargers. Marysville Getchell took a lead into the final minute of regulation against Lynnwood Sept. 29 before eventually settling for a 2-2 tie.
The scoreboard facing them wasn’t on but every Marysville Getchell volleyball player knew who was winning. “I just kept looking back (at the scoreboard behind them),” said senior Getchell captain Katherine LaRosa. “Hoping it could come quicker.”
In a matchup that will go far in determining the Wesco North champion this season, Arlington simply had more big plays and came away with a 45-28 win over Marysville-Pilchuck Sept. 23.
While the defense was there for a half, the Cougars’ offense never showed up. The Lakewood girls soccer team left a 3-0 Cascade Conference loss to King’s Sept. 15 with more questions than it had opening the match.
At times, Andre Pina was looking for contact. During the Tommies’ 48-0 blowout of the Bruins Sept. 16, M-P’s senior halfback wasn’t just shedding tackles — in some cases he was torpedoing right threw them.

The Lady Tomahawks got off to a fast start this season, but have since run into trouble.
With two wins to start the year, followed up by two losses, M-P found a rare occasion to finish a match, March 12, and responded with a 5-2 result against Arlington.
The Cougars kept it simple and the result was a win against Coupeville.
“That was one of the three things we wanted to work on,” said Lakewood boys manager Bryce Barker after his team earned a 3-2 Cascade Conference victory April 11. “We knew that if we played simple and had fun, the goals would come.”
Defense is often overlooked in soccer.
That can especially be the case in a match like the Tommies’ 2-0 defeat of the Knights, April 4, when the offense was so entertaining.
The Tommies hit their first speed bump of the of the year in a clash of unbeatens early in the season.
Marysville-Pilchuck had difficulty adjusting to the Jackson pressure in a 2-0 loss March 30.
The Tommies’ passive-aggressive streak this season hit its pinnacle March 24 against the Eagles.
In a 2-1 Wesco North victory, the Tommies allowed a goal and scored a goal within the first two minutes of play.
The Lady Tomahawks got the familiar feeling of a Wesco North softball win in its first conference game of the season.
It might have taken a couple of innings for the offense to wake up, but Marysville-Pilchuck started the conference season where it left off in 2010: perfect.
