Hairdresser on hospital board?

Hospital District No. 3 was founded in 1964. Only once since then has a physician served as a commissioner. Dr. Dale Huber served as interim commissioner until a new commissioner could be elected from 1970 to 1971 (until a new commissioner was elected).

We have had businessmen, businesswomen, bankers, educators, real estate individuals, veterinarians, and even hairdressers serving on the hospital board. Hospital commissioners are elected to represent one of four at-large positions of Hospital District No. 3. The position is non-salaried and requires that the individual elected represent the community and has the communities’ best interest at heart. Cascade Valley Hospital has grown and is in the process of a major expansion. It has a wonderful dedicated staff. Wasn’t Cascade Valley Hospital recognized as one of the top 100 hospitals in the United States in 1995? According to the report to the board Cascade Valley Hospital is financially sound in spite of recent economic down turns.

It has been asked if we need a physician on the hospital board — perhaps, but not this physician candidate. As one who truly cares for the community I would ask you to support our present commissioner, Margo Powell, in her effort to get reelected to commissioner Hospital District No. 3. Margo Powell has 11 years of experience on the hospital board, three years as chairperson of the board, volunteer Darrington EMS, member of the Arlington Darrington Community Emergency Management planning group and, oh yes, a hairdresser.

Thank you on behalf of those of us who care for our community.

Beverly Geer,

Arlington
