After reading Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 in the Herald, I feel upset enough to respond. First of all July 12th, Monroe wants $10 a month from homeowners. Are the homeowners the only ones creating the traffic problems? I don’t think so. If all the rest would stay home, there wouldn’t be a problem.
I do not live in Monroe.
Secondly, the Herald July 13th regarding taxing questions stated, near as I can figure, if you lived in a certain area you could be taxed $707 on a house valued at $346,000 over and above our existing taxes.
Regardless, I also notice several of these taxes are targeted at property owners. I have to ask again, are we the only ones using these services? I don’t think so.
What makes our community leaders and politicians think because we worked our butt off in younger years to buy our home that we should now be paying for community services that benefit all?
I will not now or ever again vote for any tax burdens on property owners only. If and when our local leaders and our politicians figure out a better way where all pay a share, I will be happy to pay my share.
I hope property owners will read this and rebel until a more equitable taxation system is worked out.
I see the county wants to build a $163.2 million dollar criminal justice center. No problem, though. Homeowners, this will only cost you $38 a year for 30 years on a $350,000 house.
Rebel, Rebel, Rebel.
