Is anyone aware that this is happening? The federal government. in May 2008, is requiring states to completely revamp their drivers licensing guidelines. The guidelines will be dictated by the Homeland Security Department. Some of these guidelines will include having to be fingerprinted, having a retinal eye scan and the actual card having id chips attached to them, holding all this information in a digitized format. The federal government will not recognize your ID without this Real ID card. You will not be able to fly, enter federal buildings, collect Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid and many banks will require you to have it.
City, businesses team up to fight graffiti, Fight? Come on are you serious? If you cant beat them, join them. Give these kids (sorry I mean vandals) a place to paint. Let them paint the skate parks. In fact, let them paint any park. Thats what parks are for, right? The vandals. (Oops sorry I meant to say the kids)
Im not sure Adele Ferguson recognized the irony in the quotes published in her column last week: He not only predicates his policies on rumor, unsupported charges and unscientific reports, but ignores the truth because it could counter his political aspirations, he uses government power for unproven and even fanatical ends and his policies would drain billions from the U.S. for reasons that have nothing to do with science, but a great deal to do with political ambition.
I must respond to the many letters that Lowana Krewson from Stanwood writes about tough sentencing guidelines here in Washington state. Many times she writes about non-violent crimes, I totally disagree.
We understand that consideration is being made to place gambling (probably just a card room) at the Chrome Cafe a.k.a. Happy Days a.k.a. the old Shotzes on 172nd South of the airport. We live near this area and do not want gambling of any kind going in along the 172nd corridor. This stretch has severe traffic problems during certain hours of the day, is unsafe for pedestrians just east of the airport, and is way too close to families with children. There is a high school nearby. Those who gamble have a tendency to drink while playing cards. We dont need more impaired drivers on the road, especially not this close to our neighborhood. Please note our strong opposition to gambling of any kind in or near Smokey Point.

I have served on the Arlington Planning Commission for the past three years. During that tenure, it has been clear to me that Arlington is at a crossroads. We have in place a comprehensive plan for our city which lays out an aggressive 10-year path for population and business growth. The details of that plan have not been filled in.
On behalf of the Loyal Heights Community Club we would like to thank the Arlington Times, Marysville Globe, groups and individuals who donated items for sale and the greater Arlington Community for supporting our recent successful fall bazaar.
The Arlington Professional Firefighters Local 3728 has voted to support Mr. Chris Edmundson in the race for Fire Commissioner in District 19. Arlington has maintained a close working relationship with District 19 over the years and it is our belief that Mr. Edmundson represents the best candidate to maintain that strong interagency working relationship.
On behalf of the Arlington School District Board of Directors, I am writing this letter in support of EHJR 4204, a simple majority for our local schools.
On election night, any campaign in our state receiving a 59 percent outcome begins celebrating with slaps on the back and champagne for all their hard work paying off.
