ARLINGTON – Many students in the Life Skills classes at Pioneer Elementary can’t communicate.

So two junior Girl Scouts in Kim Stevenson’s troop came up with an idea to help as part of their Bronze project.

Rory Salmon and Ahalea Knight, both 11, made photo books for the Life Skills students. Photos can be put into the book, so if the students want to do something they can point to the photo that describes it.

Salmon and Knight previously volunteered in that class. They are entering Haller Middle School this year.

“Most of the kids are nonverbal,” Stevenson said. They will be able to use those books “if their Ipads don’t work” to get food or water. Cecelia Smith said four other Girl Scouts are working on two community libraries and four others are working at the dog park at Haller for their Bronze awards.
