Red Carpet Awards party

Jewelry, clothing, art, and most anything else made of old, unused or broken pieces of technology are eligible for a contest presented by the Arlington Library with first prize winner to get an iPod Touch. The winner will be announced at a Red Carpet Awards Party at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 27. For teens ages 12 to 18. The project is supported by the Sno-Isle Foundation and Friends of the Arlington Library.

Barkin’ Boogie

The Northwest Barkin’ Boogie, a K-9 musical freestyle dance competition featuring, yeh, you guessed, dogs, is this weekend, 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28 and 9 a.m. Sunday, March 29 at Country Classic Kennels, 9332 99th Ave. NE, in Arlington.

Garden prep class

Arlington Garden Club is offering a class at the Arlington Community Garden across the street from the Arlington Library

10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 28. The public is invited to bring shovels, buckets and tools and learn about preparing a garden for planting.

Skagit wineries at WineStyles

Wine Styles, 6608 64th St. NE, in Marysville is hosting three Skagit Valley wineries at WineStyles Marysville at a very special three winemaker event with each offering their own styles and varietals, from 3 – 9 p.m. Saturday, March 28. Each winery has its own session: 3 – 5 p.m. Tulip Valley Winery; 5 – 7 p.m. Eagle Haven Winery; 7 – 9 p.m. Challenger Ridge Vineyard & Cellars along with Steve Roberts, author of “Wine Trails of Washington.” Each session is $15. Live music at Boondockers

Grow your own groceries

The Granite Falls Library is hosting a session with the Snohomish County WSU Extension Master Gardeners who will teach folks how to grow fresh food. The presentation will cover basics of getting started with vegetable gardening: what grows well in our climate, site selection, basics of a good soil foundation, soil testing, composting, mulching and crop rotation, 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19 at 815 Galena Street in Granite Falls.
