Binetti speaks at garden club

luncheon

The Arlington Garden Club and the Evergreen District of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs will present a well-known garden writer, gardener and speaker, Marianne Binetti, as the special guest speaker at the garden club’s luncheon Saturday, May 9 at Magnolia Hall, on Third Street and McLeod Avenue, one block east of City Hall. Lunch catered by Magnolia Hall includes salads, bread, beverages and a chocolate mousse. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. providing time to browse the many raffle items before Binetti starts speaking on “Flexible Gardening – Flexible Gardners” on growing and changing with your garden to have less stress, less work and more joy in life, starting at 10 a.m. After her talk, the author will sign copies of her book. After lunch there will be a district meeting and a raffle of some great garden items including a wishing well, an old-fashioned wooden hanger with planter, an antique chair planter with flowers made by Dawn Griep of Flowers by George, and a basket made by the speaker Marianne Binetti which includes one of her books and other items.

Stamp Out Hunger

The National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service will be collecting food donations for the food bank in it’s annual Stamp Out Hunger event Saturday, May 9. No expired food items or glass containers, please. Place a bag of donations into your mail box before the carrier arrives.

demonstrates plein air painting at AAC meeting

The Arlington Arts Council has announced a very special guest speaker, Aleks Kargopoltsev will speak about and demonstrate “plein air” painting at its next meeting. Due to the special guest, the presentation will start earlier than usual, at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, in Arlngton. A resident of Arlington, Kargopoltsev was born in Novgorod, Russia. He paints scenes of the Pacific Northwest in Russian Realism style. The pre-meeting workshop is free to members and $5 for nonmembers. The AAC meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. For information call Carey Waterworth at 360-631-9242.

LHS presents “George Washington Slept Here”

Lakewood High School drama students are presenting “George Washington Slept Here,” at 7 p.m. May 8, 9 15 and 16 at the LHS Theater.

Tickets are $7 general admission and $5 for students with ASB card.

TAG presents Cinderella at BPAC

The Theater Arts Guild of Skagit County is bringing its huge production of “Cinderella” to the Byrnes Performing Arts Center, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd., at Arlington High School for two matinees, May 9 and 10. They had originally planned a Friday night show, but it was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales.

Local artists Camano Island studio tour

Resume writing class May 11

Job seekers in the northwest region are invited to attend one of four free accomplishments-based resume-building classes presented by the Marysville Parks and Recreation Department.

Participants must bring a current resume or work history and $10 to the 110-minute session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 11 at the Red Barn in Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road, in Marysville.

French students present readers’ theater

Advanced French students at Arlington High School will perform a Readers’ Theater production, “France et la Shoah: History in Quotations.”

Presented mostly in English, the performance is backed by a slide show with subtitles when necessary, said advisor to the project Sue Weingarten, former French and drama teacher at AHS. 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 13 in the Byrnes Perfoming Arts Center, at Arlington High School, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd. in Arlington.

Kidstage holds auditions May 12-13

Village Theatre KIDSTAGE will hold auditions for the SummerStock production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor© Dreamcoat, May 12-13 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave., in Everett for young actors ages 8-18.
