The Magic of Dance
The North Cascades Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Lylburn Layer,
will present “The Magic of the Dance” at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. The program honors the many styles of dance and its music, from symphonies and operas to stage plays and jazz bands. The music on this program represents many styles of music from around the world and through the ages: Russia, 18th and 19th century America, gypsy dances, Slavonic folk dances, American ballet, swing music and the popular musical, “Westside Story.”
A special feature of the program is a new composition by an Arlington High School junior, Eric McElroy called “Portly Mr. Pottle.” The concert is presented by the Arlington Lions Club and tickets can be purchased from any Lions Club members or at the door: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. Marsyville seeks musicians for summer concerts
Musicians interested in playing in Marysville’s Sounds of Summer concert series next summer should send sample CDs and band profile information . The coordinator of the event, Maryke Burgess, manages the Ken Baxter Senior and Community Center for Marysville Parks and Recreation.
The annual “Sounds of Summer” takes place mid July to mid August. The Friday concerts take place at 7 p.m. at Jennings Memorial Park and Thursday concerts are at noon at Comeford Park.
Criteria include family friendly and “relatable to the general public,”
high energy music, and something that will hold the audience and get them dancing, and willingness to work with a tight budget No mellow music.
