registration
Marysville Parks and Recreation is now accepting registrations for winter Kindermusik classes. Kindermusik is for newborns and children up to the age of 7. A variety of classes are offered for the different age groups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning Jan. 27. Class times and costs vary. In every class, parents will witness their child’s developmental evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem and musicality. n The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce has announced a call for proposals of art for the next telephone directory cover. Anyone over the age of 16 is encouraged to submit a colored sketch, painting or photograph of something that embodies the spirit of Arlington. Carey Waterworth won the “Call for Art” in 2008. The prize is an annual membership with the chamber, the honor and public exposure of your art and biography for a whole year. The deadline for this contest is Friday, Feb. 27. The winner will be announced at the auction in March. The chamber is also seeking donations for the auction. n Entries are due by Feb. 4 for an eagle photograph contest in conjunction with the second Arlington Eagle Festival on Feb. 7. Entries should be delivered to Sarah Hegge at Arlington City Hall, 238 N. Olympic, in downtown Arlington. Photographs must be at least eight by ten inches in size and must have been taken in Snohomish County. For information call 360-403-1011.
How to adopt
a stream
Schools and community groups are invited to learn the five-step stream adoption process, a model for stream stewardship programs across the country, from Tom Murdoch of Adopt a Stream Foundation, from 7 – 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15 at the Northwest Stream Center, in Snohomish County’s McCollum Park, 600 128th Street SE in Everett. Manners for
children
Children with good manners have positive friendships and strong self-esteem, and now they can learn good manners with a fun, hands-on workshop offered through the city of Arlington’s Recreation Program from 9 a.m. to noon at the Community Room of the Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, in Arlington. The course by Final Touch Finishing School covers telephone etiquette, basic table manners, introductions, personal care and posture. For ages 6-11 years. Fee is $30. Snohomish County Explosion will be holding dance team tryouts for the 2009 season Jan. 17. Women 18 years and older with dance experience are encouraged to tryout for the third-year dance team. As a partner of the Courtyard Media Foundation dance events include the Explosion Basketball games, community clinics a Boys and Girls Clubs and special dance events among other things. Dancers from the squads have gone on to dance with professional NBA teams and NFL teams including the Seattle Seahawks. Tryouts will be held at the ROCK Church located at 16891 146th St. SE, in Monroe Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. and auditions begin at 3 p.m. A $20 audition fee is due at registration. A benefit concert for the Snohomish Community Food Bank, “Three Hours of Peace and Music” features some of Snohomish County’s finest acoustic, blues and rock musicians, including Vincent Allis, BetZ, Greg Cardinal, Michael Clune, Rory Corbin, Dean Edwards, Jam Club of Snohomish High, Magdeline, Jim McLaughlin & Pamela Van Kirk, Greg Murat, Tim Noah, Jay Pulliam, Jake Sand, Straight from the Shed, Rachael Teixiera, and Wired!, starting 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Thumbnail Theater, 1211 Fourth St. in Snohomish.
