ARLINGTON – Six middle and high school students were honored Nov. 14 by the Rotary Club of Arlington for making a difference in their schools, and each received $50 to donate to a charity of their choice.

Jacob Smith from Arlington High always has a positive attitude in class. “He does an amazing job of working on his projects but also helps other students as well as teachers,” teacher Scott Striegel said. Jacob’s $50 contribution is being made to Hope Unlimited.

Lakewood High student Riley Krueger is well-rounded and represents almost every aspect of the high school.“Riley is kind, caring, thoughtful and hard-working,” LHS principal Jeanette Grisham said. Her contribution is going to the American Cancer Society.

Weston High School’s Abby Boespflug goes above and beyond in class.“She is helping to improve the school culture through her regular engagement with and kindness to other students,” teacher Joshua Perrigo said. Abby’s $50 contribution is going to the NOAH Animal Shelter.

Desiree Nusbaum from Lakewood Middle School welcomes each new student to school.“She takes time out of her day to give them a tour and makes sure they know where their classes are and where their locker is,” principal Amanda Cote said. Desiree’s contribution is going to the Suicide Prevention Hotline.

Jesus Renteria Garcia from Post Middle School was recognized as a hard worker.“Due to his positive attitude and excellent work ethic, he is respected among both his peers and his teachers,” teacher Robin Foster said. Jesus’ $50 donation is being made to the Arbor Day Foundation.

Haller Middle School’s Emma Armes is another student who makes newcomers feel welcome.“Students look up to her and respect her, as she goes above and beyond to make everyone feel a part of our Haller family,” teacher Kim Anderson said. Emma’s $50 is also going to the American Cancer Society.
