TULALIP — The Marysville Arts & Technology High School hopes to entertain audiences while enlisting their aid to help the Marysville Community Food Bank.

The Arts & Tech Drama Department’s spring play production of “Fools” by Neil Simon will run from May 10-12, with showtimes starting at 7 p.m. and May 10 also boasting the First Dessert Theatre Night.

While tickets are $8 apiece, those who bring in nonperishable food items will receive a $1 discount.

“Fools” centers around schoolteacher Leon Tolchinsky, who arrives in Kulyenchikov to find that the town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years. To break the spell, he must teach the beautiful young Sophia, whom he falls in love with in spite of her dimwittedness, but he must succeed within 24 hours, or else he’ll become yet another village idiot.

“We strive to include the students in every aspect of the production,” Arts & Tech Theater Advisor Aleesha Paddleford said. “They are responsible for designing, building and decorating the sets, as well as acting, directing and producing the play.”

Starting in 2010, each production has incorporated a food drive into their performances. The idea came from a senior project, but the students decided to continue with the event because they wanted to help out the community. It’s since become a school tradition.
