TULALIP – It’s a Wonderful Life when about 500 people donate thousands of dollars to help others who are less fortunate.
At Opening Night of the Festival of Trees Tuesday, donations were given to benefit Children’s Services at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
“The lives of thousands of children will be helped thanks to your generosity,” said Mel Sheldon, master of ceremonies.
The Festival of Trees continues today with an event free to the public from 1-6 p.m. Visitors can not only look at the trees, but they also will be entertained by local singing and musical groups. Activities for kids and light refreshments also will be available, along with a visit from Santa himself.
The large gala finale is Friday night, but it is sold out.
Last night, participants enjoyed a silent auction, photo booth, buffet, and live music and dancing to the Dusty 45’s.
Those who purchased a blinking pin for $30 were part of a raffle drawing, with the winner getting a night in Seattle at The Westin, tickets to a 5th Avenue Theatre play and $500 in certificates to dinner and a club.
Decorated trees had different themes, including: Penguins Playground, Happy Pines Arch, Mount Elegance, Coastal Christmas, Merry Lego Christmas and a superhero tree.
In the 32 years of the event, more than $10 million has been raised.
Children’s services helps pediatrics, newborn intensive care, the children’s center, the family autism center and Camp Prov, a summer camp for children with special needs.
