Arlington firefighters Zach Hanson and Rein Frankie show Presidents Elementary kindergartners and first-graders what a firefighter would look like if they were ever called out to a student’s home. Firefighters are visiting schools this week giving students tips that could save their lives in a fire. Students learned how to: stay low and check doors for heat; stop, drop and roll if their clothing catches fire; not to hide from firefighters; not to play with matches or stovetops; safely evacuate from their homes and where to meet. “While we want kids to be prepared, we also don’t want them to be scared,” Hanson said. “We put on our bunker gear and breathing masks so they can see and hear what we’ll look and sound like in case we’re ever called out to their home.” Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-14.
