MARYSVILLE — For families staying close to home for the first summer in a while or others hoping to get better acquainted with the cities’ arts, Marysville and Arlington have plenty of family-friendly summer offerings.
Marysville continues its Sounds of Summer Concerts Series July 16 when Danny Vernon will perform as Elvis in the Thursday series which begin at noon in Come-ford Park. The concert series continues Friday, July 17, when Wired will perform rock and roll at Jennings Memorial Park, in the Lions Centennial Pavilion, beginning at 7 p.m.
“We like to draw from musical talent all over the Northwest. We definitely appreciate local artists,” Burgess said. “People really like coming to these concerts.”
Marysville offers music Thursdays at noon at Comeford Park and Fridays at Jennings Park at 7 p.m.
Arlington’s own concert series runs Thursdays throughout August, kicking off Aug. 6, 6:30 p.m. at Terrace Park.
But the communities offer more than just music.
Arlington also offers Shakespeare in the Park, with Last Leaf Productions’ presentation of “The Taming of the Shrew” July 25 at 6 p.m., also at Terrace Park. And both offer movie series.
Marysville’s Popcorn in the Parks is already underway, with “The Great Outdoors” showing July 18 at Foothills Neighborhood Park. The following week the city shows its first 3-D movie, “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” at Jennings Memorial Park.
Marysville will also show “Jumanji” Aug. 1 at Strawberry Fields Park, “Top Gun” on Aug. 8 at Ebey Waterfront Park and “August Rush” on Aug. 15 at Jennings Memorial Park.
Arlington will offer three classic movies on consecutive Thursdays, starting July 16 with “Grease.” They’ll show “American Graffiti” July 23 and “Footloose” July 30.
With these events, Burgess said, age doesn’t really matter.
“They appeal to old and young,” she said.
