Trick or treaters are invited for another fun round of parading costumes and collecting treats from downtown Arlington businesses from noon to
1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, as well as entering several different contests.
Arlington Hardware will be accepting decorated pumpkins in many categories 10-11:30 a.m. and the winners will be announced at noon just in time for trick-or-treating up and down the street and at the Trunk-or-Treating event in the city parking lot. After an hour of trick-or-treating, costumes will be judged in Legion Park by members of the Arlington Arts Council with prizes awarded by the Downtown Arlington Business Association.
While in town, check out the prizewinning scarecrows along Olympic Avenue, including the first place winner, “Resfucha” at Flowers by George, the second place went to “Arlene Arlington, the Car Hop Waitress,” at the Local Scoop, and third place, “Reader Rabbit” created by the Dennistown Family for the School Box. Cash prizes were provided by the arts council — just one of many projects funded by the AAC’s annual Fall into Art Auction.

Founded on the belief that every cat matters, Purrfect Pals is a no-kill, cat-only sanctuary and adoption organization. The sanctuary has capacity for up to 300 cats, including those with leukemia, FIV, behavior problems and geriatric. The organization also finds homes for more 2,000 cats and kittens every year. Purrfect Pals strives to end overpopulation by spaying or neutering every cat and kitten prior to adoption. They offer low cost spay/neuter services to the public and to people who work with the feral TNR community.
Purrfect Pals is currently raising funds to support upgrades to its clinic and shelter, support specialized veterinary care for ill and injured cats (Tipper Fund), increase the low-cost spay/neuter capability and develop an off site adoption location.
Donations of food, litter, paper towels, bedding, and cat toys are always welcome.
Each year Purrfect Pals also sponsors the Average Joe Cat Show, a great event where people can enter their beloved cats in fun categories, enter a photo contest, visit a variety of vendors, and bid on items in a silent auction.
The next Average Joe Cat Show is scheduled for May 2, 2009 at the Shoreline Community Center in Shoreline.
