SILVANA – Youngsters showed off all kinds of animals at the annual Silvana Fair Saturday.
Kids of all ages showed their cows, dogs, roosters, rabbits, roosters, pigs, alpaca and goats. There was even a turkey and a duck.
Chloe Groeneveld of Sultan was the overall winner with her cow Deja Moo. In his comments, the judge said Chloe knew how to parade the heifer around, holding his head up high and showing him off. “They move totally in sync. They know what they are doing,” he said.
Another competitor, Cadence Smith of Oak Harbor, said she has her own business buying and selling animals, including Sherry, the cow she showed that day.
Cory McLeod of Marysville entered a rooster in the competition, and Emily O’Keefe of Oak Harbor entered her great dane Hodor, who at 10 months already weighs 120 pounds.
A variety of food was avaiable, including sno-cones sold by firefighters. There were numerous booths, including one that sold cowboy supplies, and free bands to listen to, including a folk one.
A very popular activity with a long line was trying to climb a greased down pole. If you made it to the top, there were envelopes with prize money in them. Midway through the fair almost a handful had accomplished the feat, one worker said.
