ARLINGTON — The fourth- annual “Taste of Washington” fundraiser and silent auction for Arlington’s Kids’ Kloset drew both a diverse cross-section of the community and a significant number of their dollars.

The Aug. 23 event was hosted by John and Kimberly Meno in their home, and attracted city staff such as Terry Marsh and Sherri Phelps, active community members such as Virginia Hatch, and even new Arlington School District Superintendent Kristine McDuffy.

More significant than the 85 attendees were the monies raised by the silent auction, which brought in $4,622, and the live auction, which drummed up an additional $3,275, for a total of $7,897 from the evening’s auctions.

Arlington Kids’ Kloset Co-Director Linda Dussault reported that, as of press time, they’ve also received $3,000 from people unable to attend the event and will continue taking donations from anyone interested in contributing.

Dussault added that the “Fund-a-Child” portion of the program generated $9,140. For every $150 donated to “Fund-a-Child,” one child is provided with a complete school wardrobe, including new shoes, socks, underwear and hygiene supplies twice a year, as well as backpacks and school supplies in the fall.

The total amount raised by Kids’ Kloset Aug. 23 added up to $17,037.

“We have the wonderfully generous people in attendance to thank for this,” Dussault said. “We feel fortunate to be a part of the Arlington and Lakewood communities.”

Dussault noted that all of the monies raised will go toward Kids’ Kloset’s efforts to clothe local children, since it’s an entirely volunteer-run organization.

Kids’ Kloset is located at 135 S. French St., in the basement of the former Arlington High School, and its hours are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays, and the first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon.
