King to be grand marshal at Merrysville parade

MARYSVILLE – Longtime community volunteer Tom King was named grand marshal of the 28th annual Merrysville for the Holidays Electric Lights Parade Dec. 3.

The parade features vehicles, floats and walking groups decked out in holiday lights. It begins at 6:30 p.m. and travels south on State Avenue from the Municipal Court at 10th Street to Comeford Park at 5th Street.

“Tom has been an integral part of this community for so many years,” Mayor Jon Nehring said. “His community spirit and dedicated service make him a perfect choice for grand marshal.”

One of King’s passions is the Marysville Community Food Bank, where he volunteers as a grocery pickup driver twice a week and dedicates many hours to the holiday Toy Store. Director Dell Deierling called King’s involvement “a great catch” for the food bank. “Everybody wants Tom because he’s such a great guy,” Deierling said. “He’s involved in everything.”

King also is a charter member of the Marysville Kiwanis Club, where he has served as president the last two years. King has spearheaded multiple Kiwanis fundraisers including benefit auctions and pancake breakfasts, and stored and delivered equipment to dozens of events.

Merrysville for the Holidays runs from 5 to 8 p.m., offering family activities, an outdoor craft show, photo booths, a community bonfire and live music. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive by fire truck to light the water tower, kicking off the holiday season. Non-perishable food and new, unwrapped toy donations are accepted throughout the evening.
