LAKE GOODWIN — Wenberg Park will be closed this summer.
(Pause now for collective moan from water and jet skiers, along with families who like to use the park for swimming and picnics.)
Now the good news. The future facility with $3 million in upgrades will include two floating docks next to a larger boat launch for temporary moorage.
It will also include a pier that will take the place of the log boom. Not only will it enclose the swimming area, people also will be able to walk and fish off the new dock.
And on the banks above the dock there will be ramps so people in wheelchairs will be able to get down to the water facilities.
There also will be a new circular driveway to get to the boat ramp, which will mean launching and retrieving a boat should be faster.
While the lower part of the park will be closed from May 1 to Sept. 30, the upland area with campgrounds and trails are set to remain open. Environmental restrictions about working in water limit construction to the summer months.
Snohomish County is providing $1.8 million for the upgrades; a state grant is paying for the other $1.2 million.
