Marshall, Co-op fundraisers help those in need at school

MARYSVILLE – Let’s talk turkey.

Marshall PTSA and the Marysville Co-op Education Program are having a fundraising effort to help about 40 of their families who are in need of support during the holidays.

They have been doing their Share the Harvest drive for a number of years, volunteer Danielle Peterson said. Their goal this year is 40 turkeys and $4,000 that would be given to the families as gift cards of about $100 each. They can spend it on food, clothing or a holiday gift.

The school’s resource teacher decides which families qualify and delivers the items.

“She knows the families. We don’t know who they are,” Peterson said.

The deadline to help is Nov. 21. Items are delivered to the families the Friday before Thanksgiving.

“That gives them time to thaw and get them ready for dinner,” Peterson said of the turkeys.

Families at the school donate, along with businesses around town. The Skate Deck, Dairy Queen and Altitude Trampoline are each donating some proceeds from special events to the cause. A committee also contacts other businesses for donations.

Donations can be made through Paypal to treasurer@mcepoption.org or in person at the school.

Sign up to donate a turkey at dawneb@hotmail.com. That’s a good idea to do because last year they had three times the turkeys they needed, Peterson said.
