Volunteers
needed for flood cleanup events
Snohomish County Public Works and Emergency Management staff will help flood victims clear remaining debris from their property during two volunteer Neighbor to Neighbor Flood Debris Cleanup events. The clean-up event in the Stillaguamish River basin area is set from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14 when volunteers will clean ditches and bridge stands along Pioneer Highway. Volunteers are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at Patty’s Egg Nest (Weller’s) at Island Crossing to register and pick up supplies, including gloves, safety vests and safety glasses. Volunteers are asked to wear heavy boots — no athletic-type footwear or open-toed shoes. Sponsors of the clean-up events include Beck Disaster Recovery, Allied Waste, Waste Management, Starbucks, Alfy’s Pizza, Clean Harbors, Stocker Fields and Monroe Speedway for supplies. A movie to honor firefighters
The Assembly of God Church in Arlington is planning a special tribute to Arlington area firefighters. They are showing a movie, “Fire Proof” at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15, and the community is invited to join in the fun. They have capactiy for 500 and tickets are free. Children age 4- 12 also get a movie of their own, “A New Vegie” and child care will be provided. “We’ve invited all the Arlington, Bryant and Silvana firefighters,” said Kathy Carlin. “We just want to honor them.” The movie will be presented at the church, 201 N. Marley’s Ghost, Rhonda Vincent tickets now for sale

Chamber plans auction, banquet
The Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce has announced its Black & White Dinner Auction is set for Feb. 28 at the Medallion Hotel (formerly the Hawthorn Inn) and donations are needed for the silent and live auctions. $60 per person or $480 per table. The chamber will announce their citizen of the year winner as well as the artist selected for the cover of the next telephone directory. Wellness Wednesdays at M-PHS
People of all ages are welcome to join in Wellness Wednesday nights at the Marysville-Pilchuck High School
track, which is open from 5 – 9 p.m. for anyone who wants to walk with trainer Tory Klementsen.
Klementsen meets runners and walkers at 5 p.m. for fun and fitness in a safe, well lit atmosphere and it’s free.
A certified fitness trainers, Klementsen is also training for the Seattle Rock
and Roll Marathon on Saturdays at Jennings Park. The training program is open to runners or walkers
interested in training for the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon or Half Marathon in June. Seattle will be hosting its first Rock and Roll Marathon, so named for the band at every mile and the free concert open to all runners after the race. The training program is very “new runner/walker” friendly, Klementsen said.
Klementsen is also offering a “Learn to Run” class for people interested in training for the St. Paddy’s Day Dash March 15, on Thursday nights through the Marysville Parks Department. Registration for that class is through Marysville Parks and Recreation. The Marathon/Half Marathon training program is through the
Journey-Fitness.com website.
