MARYSVILLE – The 45-member Marysville City Band will perform an outdoor concert, weather permitting, to kick off the Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce annual fundraising carnival Thursday.

The band plays concert music. It has its Spring Concert the following day at the new Marysville Museum on Armar Road starting at 7 p.m.

It plays at least three concerts around town every year, often at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Living Room Cafe. It also has performed at Comeford Park and Cedarcrest Golf Course, among other spots.

The all-volunteer nonprofit has been around a couple of decades. They play for free, but donations are accepted to help them buy music.

Bruce Norris is president of the nonprofit. He said anyone with three years of experience playing an instrument can join the group, so they have musicians from middle schoolers to retirees involved.

Norris, who plays french horn, has been with the group for three years.

“It’s a great group of people,” he said, adding the band’s numbers swell up to 60 in the summer when kids are out of school.

The nine songs the band will play Thursday and Friday will include: “The Liberty Bell,” by John Philip Souza, along with “French Plus” and “Autumn in New York.” An Irish tune and a Japanese folk song also are planned.

Steven Utt is the conductor.

The group practices Thursdays at Totem Middle School starting at 6:30 p.m. Summer session is held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church starting June 15.
