Artistry in Nature
The second annual “Artistry in Nature” show at the Ken Baxter Senior/Community Center is set for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1. The show features a variety of art made of natural material by participants who attend classes at the center in media such as gourds, driftwood, and wood carving as well as watercolor classes. Cottage Gallery at Whittsend
Holly Whitten is opening a new gallery, The Cottage Gallery at Whittsend, at 14620 W. Lake Goodwin Rd. with a grand opening celebration this weekend, Nov. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery offers original oil paintings and prints as well as the family cookbook for sale. There will be a free drawing for a numbered print and refreshments to enjoy while Whitten demonstrates her painting skills. For information call 360-652-5709.
Fundraiser for Jerry Jacobs
A wine-tasting fundraiser for stem cell transplant patient Jerry Jacobs will be held at Smokey Point Masonry, 7822 47th Ave. NE, in Marysville on Nov. 1, from 6-9 p.m. Admission is $15 per person and must be purchased in advance at 360-653-1367.
Art Matters
Members of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild and the Camano Art Association are partnering in a new show, “Art Matters” at Four Springs Lake Preserve on Camano Island, 10 a.m. to
6 p.m., Nov. 1 and 2 at 585 Lewis Lane, on Camano Island. The chair of the show, Sharon Dodge, said there will be a large variety of art in all media. Each artist is showing four or five pieces of art along with live music. Ten percent of sales will be donated to the preserve. For information call Dodge at 360-387-0727.
Wired and Unplugged moves
The every Friday open mic at Wired & Unplugged coffeehouse in Snohomish has been moved and is going strong 7:30 p.m. every Friday evening at Tim Noah’s 501(c)3 non-profit Thumbnail Theater, at 1211 4th St. on the corner of Avenue D and 4th Street in historic downtown Snohomish. Start time will move to 8:30 p.m. later this fall. Admission is by donation only. MacKechnie to demonstrate at GMAG meeting
The Greater Marysville Artists Guild announced a special guest demonstration by Joe MacKechnie who works in graphite, ink, pastel, oil and watercolor at its monthly meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the barn at Jennings Park in Marysville. MacKechnie grew up in Washington, graduated from the University of Washington, and since his retirement, has pursued a career in fine art. His goal in art is “to isolate, depict and capture the essence of a subject. I seek qualities that are elusive, difficult to discover and portray. Painting for me is about sharing my view as I witness and savor the visual moment’.
Seattle Young Opera at McIntyre
Skagit Opera presents special guests from the Seattle Opera Young Artists who will perform “Tatyana’s Letter,” lyrical scenes from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon.

Bronn Journey to perform at BPAC
The Arlington Rotary Club has announced a concert for the community with harpist Bronn Journey on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center at the Arlington High School, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.
A portion of the proceeds will go to help the community during the Thanksgiving season. Tickets are $15, available from Rotary members and at Flowers by George in downtown Arlington.
