MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Masonic Lodge is teaming up with Deaconess Children’s Services to protect children at risk for abuse and neglect in the community.

“Hot August Nights” begins Aug. 8 with a classic car viewing at 3:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m., at 419 Columbia Ave. in Marysville. All of the $100 ticket price and all other donations will go directly to benefit Snohomish County children and families.

“Our goal is to raise $10,000 with this event,” said Felicia Freeman, president of Deaconess Children’s Services. “A donation of $100 will help us provide child abuse and neglect prevention in schools and homes, one week of an evidence-based parenting class for parents and their children, or one month of individual and group support from a qualified case manager for teen parents.”

The “Hot August Night” event will include a prime rib dinner, jazz music, entertainment, dessert and festivities. Guests are set to include U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, state representatives Mike Sells, Mike Hope and Mary Helen Roberts, state Sen. Paull Shin, state Senate candidate Lillian Kaufer, Snohomish County Council member John Koster and Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe.

The Marysville Masonic Lodge is supporting the agency’s efforts by donating the use of its facilities. Deaconess Children’s Services will use funds to educate parents on how to keep children safe, build a child’s self-esteem and prepare children for school success, as well as prevent teen pregnancy and juvenile delinquency.
