EVERETT — Nearly 200 people attended the YMCA of Snohomish County’s 13th annual Minority Achievers Program Recognition & Scholarship Banquet to recognize and celebrate MAP students, volunteers, staff and supporters and to award scholarships to students of color and immigrant students on Wednesday, May 29.

The MAP mission is to motivate and support students to achieve higher education and career goals. The student scholarship recipients, three of which are from Marysville schools, are graduating from high school and going to college.

This year, 11 students received scholarships, thanks to the EverTrust Foundation, American Distributing Company and the Seattle Foundation. Since 2001, MAP has awarded 155 scholarships totaling more than $82,500.

Marysville Getchell’s Luis Alcantara, of the Academy of Construction and Engineering, Marysville-Pilchuck’s Noemi Galvan and Marysville-Pilchuck’s Israel Lopez all received MAP scholarships during the banquet.

“We are so proud for the accomplishments, growth and dedication our graduating seniors have shown,” said Tami Farber, YMCA Director of Community Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion and Education. “Each recipient is a testament to what’s possible when a young person takes a stand for their greatness despite any adversities they may face.”
