MARYSVILLE — The Marysville YMCA will be taking part in this year’s “Livestrong Day” activities throughout the day on Tuesday, Oct. 2, the anniversary of Lance Armstrong’s cancer diagnosis.

Livestrong Day began in 2004 when 11 advocates traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet members of Congress and their staff. In 2006, they added a community events component, including 115 events across the country. By 2008, they were solely focused on community activation through such events, and they have continued to grow throughout the world.

Livestrong Day is a day of global, collective action in the fight against cancer. In 2008, the YMCA partnered with Livestrong to help cancer survivors begin their journeys toward recovery with the “Livestrong at the YMCA” program. Part of the Y’s commitment to strengthening the community through healthy living, the program offers adults affected by cancer a safe, supportive environment to participate in physical and social activities focused on strengthening the whole person.

On Oct. 2, the Marysville YMCA is providing opportunities to learn about cancer survivorship programs, to celebrate cancer survivors and to honor those loved ones who have lost the fight. The Marysville YMCA is located at 6420 60th Dr. NE. For more information, call Ronda Hardcastle at 360-651-1605.
