MARYSVILLE — In spite of winter weather interfering with their schedule, the budding young dramatists of Shoultes Elementary are still on track to to present their annual school play.

This year’s production will be a performance of “The Wizard of Oz” at 2 p.m. on March 17 and at 7 p.m. on March 18.

“Despite two days of canceled rehearsals because of the big snow, we are marching forward and trying our best to be up and running by show time,” said Nancy Hammer, the school’s teacher-librarian and director of its school plays for the past three years running. “This year, I’ve felt so supported by others in the district. Andrew Christopher, from the International School of Communications at Marysville Getchell High School, is sending a crew to video the play during our day performance at 2 p.m. on March 17. This has been done before, but not to this extent and attention to detail.”

Hammer noted that Jeff Tillinghast from ISC and Erik Eliason from Totem Middle School are also supplementing the school’s antiquated sound system, to ensure that all the young performers in the cast will be heard, just as Aleesha Paddleford from the Marysville Arts & Technology High School volunteered the talents of her stage construction crew to build Dorothy’s house facade for the Shoultes players.

“This play has had so many more details than any of the others we’ve had to tackle,” Hammer said. “I am so very grateful for all of these people who have stepped up to help.”
