MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck stunned second-place Meadowdale on a final math toss-up question, and Marysville Getchell barely lost to a Jackson team that didn’t even make the playoffs.
But both have advanced to the championship round in Hi-Q. MG will compete March 6 against host Archbishop Murphy and Monroe. The match starts at 9:40 a.m. in the gym. M-P will compete March 7 against host Meadowdale and Lynnwood. That starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Great Hall. The winners move on to play at league champion Stanwood March 19.
Stanwood won the title with 126 points over three matches. Meadowdale was second with 116, Archbishop Murphy had 114, Monroe 86, MG fifth with 74, M-P sixth with 73, and Lynnwood with 68. Jackson had 62 and Lake Stevens 51.
Dave Korkowski, Everett Region Hi-Q coordinator, reported the scores for the last matches.
Jackson won a narrow victory at MG, scoring 22 while MG had 21 and Lake Stevens 14.
In the final match Thursday, teams struggled with biology and Shakespeare in the first half, which concluded with the Meadowdale and M-P tied at 17 while Lynnwood had eight. The Royals, however, caught up in physics and government. All three teams answered World History questions for four points. The victory came down to the toss-up question, solved by M-P to finish with 27 points. Meadowdale’s 25 points still earned them second place behind Stanwood.
