Marysville Getchell’s strong Hi-Q season ended sadly Tuesday at Archbishop Murphy.
ATM was upset by Monroe 17 to 16, with MG just getting nine points.
ATM actually filed an appeal, but Monroe won anyway, winning a tiebreaker 3-1.
Citing the low scores, Hi-Q regional director Dave Korkowski sand apparently the authors of the questions used took seriously the request to make playoff questions more difficult. The half-time score showed the Monroe Bearcats with 12 points, the ATM Wildcats with 8, and the MG Chargers with 5. In the second half, MG scored four points in physics while ATM closed the gap near the end with answers in the world history and math toss-up categories
Monroe moves on to the final at Stanwood at 12:45 p.m. March 14. The other contender will be decided Wednesday as Marysville-Pilchuck and Lynnwood go to Meadowdale at 8:30 a.m. The Spartans earned a bye, as well as the right to host the championship, with their first-place standing in the regular season.
