One of two coordinators of an art show at Sunnyside Nursery this weekend, Fran Clapper found a masterpiece early one morning in Friday Harbor.

“My husband and I had our boat moored at the dock in Friday Harbor a few summers ago. I happened to wake early enough to take a photo of this beautiful sunrise. I painted it in my studio when we returned home,” Clapper said.

Clapper is working with Shirley Fulfs and the Greater Marysville Artists’ Guild to coordinate an art show and sale at the nursery.

“We haven’t had any art shows for a while, so we decided it’s time to be more visible,” Fulfs said.

The event is a fundrasier for the guild’s scholarship fund.

The scholarship is available to high school students who plan to study art and adults who want further training in their artist careers.

“Ten percent of all the sales will go toward our scholarship,” Fulfs said

The art show and sale will include demonstrations by Joan Grout and Teleia Geddes who will also show a few paintings. The others will offer a full selection of their works with plenty of painting going on as well.

A hands-on project table for children will keep the kids happy while parents explore the art of about 10 GMAG members.

The show will be held in a large greenhouse at Sunnyside.

“It’s a huge space in a big greenhouse with heat, light and a cement floor,” Fulfs said.

Along with Fulfs and Clapper the show also includes Sheila Stump, who will be demonstrating jewelry. Debra Sanders and Susan Yanger will be selling jewelry. Other participants are Mara Price, photography, oil painters Cecilia Venolia, Pat Oakes, Martha Green, Marilyn Lisk, Jill Bhear, acrylic painter Christina Harvey, pastel artist, Nicki Balam, and a multi-media artist, Fumiko Winder.

Winder displays family heirlooms at Marysville Library

Many of these GMAG members show their works regularly in the Round Robin exhibit coordinated by Cecelia Venolia. Currently a collection of Fumiko Winder’s traditional Japanese crafts and artificts are on display in the 3-D display case at the back of the Marysville Library.

Winder studied at Japan’s Soshin Girls School and Nihon University before studying art at California’s San Mateo College. The collection of Japanese artifacts complements Winder’s skills in Japanese Sumi-e brush painting as well as acrylic and watercolor painting.

The Round Robin program puts member’s art in numerous north county businesses, including North County Bank and Alpine Vision in Smokey Point, Cascade Medical Center and Frontier Bank in Arlington, Farmer’s Insurance, Haggen’s Food & Pharmacy, Grandview Village and Beth A. Gold’s dentist office in Marysville and the office of Himalayan Homes, in Lake Stevens.
