TULALIP — The owners of the Pacific Rim Supper Club and Ballroom aim to give their patrons a taste of entertainment to accompany their evening meals.
Mark and Cindy Langmas began renovating the establishment, adjoining the Best Western Inn in Tulalip, late last year, and found a stage behind what had been a bar.
Supper clubs are common in the Midwest, and the couple decided to recreate that combined dinner-and-a-show experience in the Pacific Northwest.
The supper club area, which includes both a stage and an area for dancing, can seat as many as 150 comfortably, while the adjoining ballroom area has seated as many as 160, most recently when it was rented for memorial services.
The Langmases are looking to bring nostalgic DJs, ballroom dancing, comedy nights, dinner theater and murder mysteries to the supper club. They’d even like to stage their own version of “American Idol,” complete with local talent and local celebrity guest-judges. In the meantime, local music is a priority, especially for Cindy Langmas, who’s a musician herself. They’re open to bringing in performers ranging from student acts to adult professionals, in a variety of genres, with their primary requirement being that any musicians who wish to appear at the supper club perform music that would provide a pleasant accompaniment for casual conversation and fine dining.
The supper club held a “silent opening” March 27-28, with Mary McPage performing, following by a Sunday brunch March 29. Upcoming weekend acts include Rantin’ and Raven, and the Randy Oxford Band. The Langmases plan to invite local acts Wednesdays and Thursdays, when they’ll be open from 5-10 p.m., and larger acts on Fridays and Saturdays, when they’ll be open from 5-11 p.m. Sunday brunch will be a regular feature of the supper club, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with all-you-can-eat buffets for $20, including coffee and juice, mimosas for $2 and Bloody Marys for $4. They’re encouraging patrons to reserve seating early for their Easter Sunday brunch, but they can accommodate large parties, since they anticipate that seating will spill over from the supper club into the ballroom.
While Sundays might feature string quartets and high school performers, the Langmases see the potential to take advantage of the Tulalip Resort Casino’s headline acts on Fridays and Saturdays, since a number of those musicians have had free nights during which they could have appeared at establishments such as the supper club. The Langmases take just as much pride in their staff as in their onstage talent, touting their five servers, two bartenders, one host and two chefs, the latter including both co-owner Mark Langmas and Western Culinary Institute alumnus Branden Moreau. In addition to their diverse menu of dishes from the Pacific Rim, the supper club offers the option of a “VIP menu,” a five-course meal determined by the chefs, and available to all patrons.
