A participant in the upcoming Art in the Barn, Rocky Barrick won first place in the “works on canvas” category at the Stanwood-Camano Art Guild Spring Show, June 7 and 8, for his work, “Couple of Old Crows.”
He is one of more than 20 artists who will show original paintings, prints, jewelry, baskets, clay sculpture, and so much more at the fourth annual art show in a barn owned by Monica Yantis.
With help from her family to clean out the barn, Yantis presents the show in her working barn especially for her fellow members of the Arlington Arts Council. The barn has just recently been emptied of hay and will be refilled as soon as the rain stops and the hay is cut.
Along with Barrick, two other artists who won prizes at the Stanwood juried show will be in the barn. Roberta Baker, of Arlington, won third place in photography for “Sunset Deception Island” and Norman Kearsley, of Camano Island, won third place in the “works on canvas” category for his, “A Steep Cobbled Road.”
Along with those three prize-winning artists and the host, Monica Yantis, participating artists include Andrea Vaughan, Arlene Swartz, Coleen Allen, Angie Skov, Kent Baker, Christina Harvey, Fran Kaufman, Nyna Doriety, Helen Lueken, Dorothea Campbell, Cecelia Patterson, Arlene Morrison, Marilyn Lisk, Shirley Fulfs, Denise Schwans, Erika Bruss, Helen Saunders, Marilyn Moe, Laura Kuhl and Carey Waterworth, whose painting of a farmers’ market vendor is featured on the cover of the soon-to-be-released Arlington-Smokey Point Chamber of Commerce Telephone Directory.
New members of the arts council participating in the show this year include Denise Schwans, who has been studying photography with Kent Baker this year, and Laura Kuhl, the wife of the city of Arlington’s new Community Development Director.
“We have some new members in the show this year,” Yantis said.
“Marilyn Lisk, Marilyn Moe and Arlene Morrison are some of the new faces who will add a nice assortment to our collection,” she added.
The participants live in all corners of the Stillaguamish Valley and beyond.
