MARYSVILLE — Scrub-A-Mutt is hosting a Valentine’s weekend pet food drive at the Marysville Safeway at 1258 State Ave.
The pet food drive will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 12, the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, and will collect both dog and cat food, as well as cash donations, to give to the Marysville Community Food Bank.
Although Scrub-A-Mutt is known for its annual summer dog wash fundraiser, the organization has been expanding its service to the community by joining forces with organizations like Old Dog Haven, the Northwest Organization for Animal Help and the Everett Animal Shelter.
“Now that the holidays are over, people forget there is still a food donation need, for people and their pets alike,” said Jennifer Ward, co-director of Scrub-A-Mutt. “We’re thrilled that our local Safeway was eager to offer us a location to collect donations.”
The Marysville Community Food Bank also accepts open bags of pet food, so those who have food that their pets won’t eat can stop by Scrub-A-Mutt’s collection site on Feb. 12.
Scrub-A-Mutt collected more than 1,000 pounds of pet food for the Marysville Community Food Bank in October of last year, and another 1,000 pounds for the Everett Animal Shelter that November.
Everyone who makes a donation will be entered to win a Valentine-themed dog gift basket worth more than $100.
Individuals can also make cash donations on Scrub-A-Mutt’s website.
