MARYSVILLE – Three locals received Pioneer of the Year awards from the Marysville Historical Society Monday.
Honored were: Harv Jubie, Harold “Kip” Kipperberg and Sandra Busse.
Historical Society president Ken Cage said the three have played major roles in building the new museum. However, more volunteers are needed to help the society finish the job. As of now, Cage doesn’t expect it to open until the second quarter of the year, unless he gets help.
As for the Pioneer winners, Jubie has spent many volunteer hours in the construction and electrical wiring of the new Marysville Historical Museum and Rotary Town Hall, which is nearing completion. Of Jubie, Cage said his expertise and advice have contributed greatly to the museum, historical society president Ken Cage said. “His knowledge as an electrician and as a builder has been invaluable for this project.”
Kipperberg joined the project in the interior finishing stages and is largely responsible for the beauty of the storefronts in the Great Hall.
“He is a craftsman without equal,” Cage said.
Both built the outside garages where the Model “T”s are displayed. They have been made honorary members of the society.
Busse is the society’s treasurer who keeps the books. But more than that, she has demonstrated an ability to organize and direct the volunteers who are putting the finishing touches to the interior of the museum, Cage said. She is largely responsible for getting stuff organized and put away, he added.
The society’s board of trustees, along with Cage and Busse, include: Morrie Sachsenmaier, vice president; Edith Johnson, secretary; and board members Kathy Franzwa, Peter Condyles, Lita Sheldon, Al Elliott, Karen Burkhart, JoAnn Donohue, Steve Muller and Meg EngelterCage said volunteers are needed to help the society finish the museum. As of now, he doesn’t expect it to open until the second quarter of the year, unless he gets help.
