A former resident of Arlington who now lives in Eastern Washington, Lori Vonderhorst is a featured artist in the the Arts Council of Snohomish County’s Gallery Store.

Her new work features a series titled “Nesting Boxes.” They are small bird-themed constructions which include paintings and collage accents with estate-sale and junk-store ephemera that the artist has collected over the years.

“I have been enjoying putting to use these papers and objects that I have been collecting,” Vonderhorst said. Vonderhorst’s art has always been influenced by the natural world around her. She uses flowers and foliage and often birds and nests appear in her work.

Her new landscape in Tri-Cities is so vastly different from her many years living here on the west side of the mountains, and she’s finally beginning to understand it more and work it into her art. While her new environment is evident in her new work, these pieces are undeniably Lori’s — dreamy, rich and brimming with personal symbolism.
